When the Blue Man Group started in 1988, its founders had no idea that their journey would lead to start a formal educational program. Today, joined by their partners and with the motivation of their own children, plus the children in their expanding community, launching and running the Blue School has become their passion. Blue School opened in the Fall of 2006 with the dream of creating a joyful, integrated educational experience for the families in our community and beyond.

Blue School’s beautiful new building on Water Street in lower Manhattan enables its inspiring team of teachers and administrators to educate children age 2 through Grade 5 and have a permanent home base from which they can share learning with educators around the world. Throughout the course of their journey at Blue School, children develop a deep understanding of themselves as learners. As they explore the world around and within themselves, they acquire the agency and internal motivation to pursue their ideas and inquiries with uncommon depth and breadth. They are accustomed to bringing their unique point of view to both academic and social challenges and have the support they need within the community to take big chances and either succeed and fail with full commitment and humor.

Because tuition alone does not cover the full expenses of running this exceptional school, Blue School has begun a fundraising campaign. Blue School hopes to grow its curriculum, share the approach more broadly, and offer more need-based scholarships. To expand as planned, the school needs to raise $1 million annually through 2014.
